Uwira is the world-leading manufacturer of alternative fuel piping solutions for the maritime industry. As early as in 2015, we delivered methanol piping for M/S Stena Germanica, the world’s first commercial ship to run on methanol as its main fuel. Uwira is the first supplier in the world to successfully deliver a methanol piping solution to a vessel in service.

Double-walled Piping Solutions for Methanol, Ammonia, and Hydrogen
Uwira manufactures double-walled piping systems for alternative fuels. Our system consists of a thick inner pipe and protective outer pipe. The thick-walled high-pressure line is capable of withstanding pressures of up to 1,800 bar, guaranteeing the safe transfer of hazardous fluids.
While environmentally friendly new fuels, such as methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen, play a key role in the maritime energy transition, they present new challenges for system providers due to their high operating pressures and pressure fluctuations. With decades of experience in manufacturing double-walled pipes, Uwira ensures both the safety and performance of these systems. We collaborate with leading engineering companies in system design.
Alternative Fuel Piping for Newbuilds and Retrofits
Uwira manufactures alternative fuel double-walled piping for both newbuilds and retrofit solutions. Our system can be installed on any vessel. To minimize downtime during installation, we optimize the manufacturing and installation processes, prefabricating pipe spools to the greatest possible extent at our factory in Vaasa, Finland. The spools are transported on-site and installed by our experienced engineers.
Thanks to our strong project management expertise and minimal on-site work, such as welding, we ensure that our customers’ vessels are back in operation on schedule.
Inspected, Tested, and Approved
All our spools undergo rigorous quality control and third-party inspections, ensuring each component is approved before delivery. Once installed, the entire system is inspected, pressure-tested, and certified by a classification society. We provide separate documentation and approvals for our prefabricated pipe spools.
Extensive Documentation
Uwira provides comprehensive documentation for demanding fuel systems. We maintain full traceability of materials and manufacturing data, ensuring compliance with strict industry requirements. We supply documentation for both our prefabricated spools and the final installed system. The capability to produce extensive documentation has long distinguished us within the industry.
